BacOut Update!

For those of you who read the Before BacOut and After BacOut post last week, I'd like to give you a little update.

I've started putting about 4 squirts of BacOut into my detergent slot during my cold pre-rinse cycle because quite frankly, I'm too lazy to take the bottle upstairs so I can spray each diaper. I have always told people and wholeheartedly believed, that you should expect an ammonia smell on a morning diaper because urea (urine) naturally breaks down to ammonia and it's just a chemical reaction that cannot be stopped....or can it?

This morning, just the faintest smell of ammonia was coming from my sleeping baby and I only smelled it after I unzipped her jammies and removed her wool soaker. I actually had to sniff to get the odor!

So there you have it, BacOut is AMAZING!!!

Another Monday, Another Match-Up!

How many PUL covers do you have in your rotation? I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am a minimalist when it comes to covers. I have 2 PUL covers that I use regularly and about 6 fleece covers. The fleece covers are SO simple to care for, just throw them in with any load of laundry and dry them in the dryer. But the PUL covers, which I use way more than once between washes, aren't so simple. They require a hanging to dry and sometimes, I just don't have time. Also, there are those dreaded times when you wash it, use it, and baby makes a nice stinky mess which seems to be lingering on the cover. Baby wipes did the trick until I stopped using disposable baby wipes. Now I just use water and a cloth wipe, so it doesn't seem to help the cover much.

But Diaper Rite Fresh Wrap Spray is the answer to my prayers! I can still use my cloth wipes and a little water on them doesn't hurt, but the Fresh Wrap provides a "clean slate" so to say, on my cover. It is all natural (distilled water, naturally derived alcohol and proprietary essential oil blend) and the essential oils are antibacterial and anti-fungal! Oh, and it smells like Lemon Drop!

I Will Wash Them

Before BacOut and After BacOut

I have to use it if I'm going to sell it, right?

So last night, as I was pulling diapers from my Planet Wise wet bag, I sprayed them each down with some BacOut before I threw them in the washer. I did my normal warm rinse cycle, but paused it when I thought maybe there was a little extra water in the washer so they could soak a bit...also so I could go take a shower.

Then I continued my normal wash routine: Whitest Whites cycle with a Prewash and Extra Rinse with about 2 1/2 T of Eco Sprout. Normally I do one more rinse cycle on warm, but this morning I did a full wash cycle, a short cycle, without soap for an extra good rinsing.

Well, here are some pictures:


 This is a microfiber insert from a BumGenius 3.0 that I've had for 18months. I don't use these often because they just never look or feel clean. Plus, I'm not a fan of the hook and loop closures on the covers or pockets in general. Remember, I sprayed this and put it directly into the wash.

And here it is afterwards! Not perfect, but SO much better. These inserts probably need to be soaked for an extended period, but I was impressed. 

Now, on this next one, I know you are going to question me because the before picture and after pictures are of different diapers. I cannot apologize enough for that. My husband came home at lunch to grab more diapers to take to daycare. I shoved a bunch in a bag and kept one to photograph for this post. But I swear to you, they all look the same now. 

So, here is the before. This is a BumGenius Elemental that again, I've had for 18 months. Normally, I can sun my stains out, but the winter sun just hasn't been enough to help. This is what they look like WET! But they don't look much better after they've been washed.

And here's the after shot! Again, not perfect, but for being sprayed and thrown in the wash, I can't complain.

So there you have it. A super quick review of my last minute experiment with some BacOut.

Strip those babies' diapers!

There seems to be a lot of talk on FaceBook about stripping diapers lately. Recently, I lost my water softener system and I've been relearning and perfecting my wash routine again after over a year without issues. Not long ago, I did a good long soak in Eco Sprout, which was amazing. Then, I got some RLR and I just HAD to try it! Awesome stuff I might add. But now, we've got Biokleen's Bac-Out in the 32 oz bottle with the foaming action spray nozzle. I have not yet had an opportunity to test it out, not going to lie to you, but I plan to tomorrow. I sent all my pocket diapers with micorfiber inserts and my AIOs to daycare today, so I will get some ..... man! I forgot to take pictures of them before they were used. Ugh! I ALWAYS do that! OK, well just trust me. The microfiber is yellow and the AIOs are stained. We're just advancing past winter here in Nebraska, so there hasn't been a lot of sunning going on lately.
