Is RLR Worth the Time & Effort?

Short answer....HECK YES!!!!

Ok, now I'll tell you why.

Let me start with a quick disclaimer:
My diapers are rarely stained and rarely do I have stink issues. I am a die hard Eco Sprout fan and just last week I did a long soak, so my diapers were in pretty good shape. But I had to try the miracle RLR, right?

The diapers I use:
I use primarily OsoCozy & Diaper Rite Prefolds with simply flannel wipes. I've been using the same prefolds for about a year now and the wipes for about 16 months. The prefolds are in great condition, but the wipes are starting to get stiff and are on their way to the trash. I also have about 12 Organic Cotton AIOs and 4 Pocket Diapers.

How I did it:
I started, like I do every wash cycle, with a WARM rinse cycle. I have a HE Front Loader, with very few wash options. I do not have a "soak" or "more water" availability. I then did my HOT/COLD Wash on "Whitest Whites" with a pre-wash and extra rinse. For this cycle (and while my water softener is not working) I use 3T of Eco Sprout with 2T of Calgon. Normally, I would do one more "rinse" cycle on WARM before tossing them in the dryer or putting them out on the clothes line.

Instead, I dumped in the RLR. I SO wish I would have taken a picture of the before, during and afters for you, but I didn't. I failed. RLR, right out of the package, looks like crumbled up Styrofoam or dried out cottage cheese, I don't know, but it didn't look like it should go through my washer and I got a tad nervous. I closed the dispenser drawer and turned on the HOT/COLD "Whitest Whites" cycle again. I omitted the pre-wash, but left the extra rinse. I then ran 5, yes 5, more WARM "rinse" cycles before the bubbles were all gone!

Mind you, I've never felt like I had build up on my diapers and the only reason I had to do the soak recently was because my water softener went out and I hadn't used enough detergent on my last couple washes.

Results:
I can't tell you that my diapers are significantly whiter than they were before because they were pretty close to EUC. I can tell you though that they are MUCH SOFTER!!! I had several prefolds that were on my list to trash because they were getting rough and nothing was helping. RLR DID! Even my wipes are soft again!!!

Here is a photo of one OsoCozy, one Diaper Rite and a wipe AFTER the wash.

So, YES, a $2.50 pack of RLR is TOTALLY worth the time & effort. Really, there isn't much effort, just time, and the washer does all the work anyway.
